Set shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, this war film features an unlikely duo made up of patriotic reporter John Royer (James Stewart) and cynical smuggler, Carnaghan (Spencer Tracy), whom Royer indirectly put behind bars with an expose story. The two pose as Irishmen and sail to Penang on a mission of national importance -- to sneak rubber out of Japanese-occupied Malaya. With only a motley group of collaborators assembled by the Dutchman (Sydney Greenstreet) and under the watchful eye of Colonel Tomura (Richard Loo), will they succeed?
