The figurative works of sculptor Chong Fahcheong capturing the nation’s shared social memories are familiar sights in Singapore’s public spaces. His current solo exhibition at NUS Museum Textures, Tones & Timbres presents a range of non-figurative sculptural pieces inspired by everyday encounters and experiences while rambling in the natural and urban landscapes of the region. Organized in conjunction with the exhibition, this talk brings participants to the artist’s studio for a glimpse of the activities and processes that take place before a sculpture is generally available for public view. Chong will share the methods of his practice, including the tools used, techniques involved, considerations given to the properties of raw materials, and the ideas and considerations guiding the execution and outcome of an artwork.

The exhibition Textures, Tones & Timbres: Art of Chong Fahcheong runs till 28 April 2013 at NUS Museum.
